Nagenahiru Development Society
Nagenahiru Development Society (NGO) is a long-standing community-focused organization dedicated to environmental protection, rural development, digital inclusion, and youth empowerment in Sri Lanka. With a mission to blend technology with social progress, Nagenahiru established the WHY Initiative, a national-scale digital ecosystem designed to uplift communities through innovation, data, and accessibility.
The WHY Super App is developed as a flagship project under the NGO, offering digital solutions for agriculture, education, community services, rural businesses, and climate resilience. Importantly, WHY operates under a self-sustaining, non-profit model. There are no profit distributions to directors or individuals. Every rupee generated through services, partnerships, or operational savings is: Reinvested into social development programs, Used to improve and maintain the WHY ecosystem, Allocated to support rural communities, farmers, youth, and environmental initiatives, Dedicated to making advanced technologies accessible to all citizens, especially underserved groups. This ensures the WHY ecosystem grows responsibly, transparently, and sustainably , always prioritizing community impact over commercial returns.
Through this structure, WHY and Nagenahiru Development Society aim to build Sri Lanka’s most inclusive, socially-driven digital platform, creating long-term positive change across agriculture, education, climate, and community development.
